Audible provides several opportunities for earning cash, catering to individuals who want to pursue careers as narrators, authors seeking self-publishing, digital marketers, or content creators. Taking advantage of these opportunities can be financially and personally beneficial, especially with the increased demand for audiobooks.

The Requirements and Skills Needed to Become a Narrator
Audible audiobook narrators have the ability to have a rewarding and successful career. Understanding the prerequisites and competencies necessary to succeed in this industry is crucial before you begin.
Vocal Clarity: The most important instrument for a narrator is their voice. The voice must be interesting, expressive, and clear. Being able to change your tone and pace properly, along with having clear pronunciation and diction, is crucial.
Speaking and Enunciating: Words must be articulated effectively and with proper pronunciation by narrators. Proficiency in the language you’re narrating is crucial.
Performing Arts: Taking on multiple characters is a common task for audiobook narrators. Acting abilities are very helpful. These include the capacity to portray emotions, develop unique character voices, and keep a narrative consistent.
Technical aptitude: It is helpful to be familiar with audio recording equipment and editing software. To satisfy Audible’s technical requirements, you will have to record and edit your narrations.
Commitment and endurance: Narration for audiobooks can be time-consuming; a flawless recording may require several takes. A good storyteller must possess these two essential traits: patience and dedication.
How to Locate and Try Out for Opportunities to Narrate Audiobooks
Finding opportunities to narrate audiobooks on Audible is the next step after you’ve polished your craft.
Test drive on ACX: Authors, publishers, and narrators can connect via the ACX (Audiobook Creation Exchange) platform. It’s Audible’s main audiobook production marketplace. Establish your profile, register for an ACX account, and look through the available audiobook opportunities. Publishers and authors frequently advertise open narrators’ auditions.
Acquire membership in Audiobook Narrators: For those who narrate audiobooks, internet forums, and communities can be quite helpful. They frequently include networking opportunities, advice, and job ads.
Voice-Over Companies: Speak with voiceover agencies—they might have prospects for audiobook narration in their portfolio.
Independent Publishers and Writers: There may be independent writers and smaller publishers who are willing to work together. You can make direct contact with them to offer your services.
A Guide to Becoming a Successful Audible Audiobook Narrator
In addition to skill, professionalism, and planning are necessary for success as an Audible audiobook narrator.
Consistently Practice: Practice telling stories aloud all the time. You can get better by acting lessons, reading aloud, and recording yourself.

How does audible work?
A service called Audible offers audiobooks, periodicals, and other written publications. Customers may become members and pick from various audiobooks to listen to. The books are available in digital format and may be streamed online or downloaded to a device for offline listening. The main purpose of Audible is to listen to audiobooks, which are recordings of a narrator reading a book aloud. A small number of graphic components, such as maps or diagrams, may be included in some Audible books along with the audio recording. Audible is a standalone app that may be downloaded alone or as part of an Amazon Prime subscription.
Some Audible Money-Making Strategies

- Creating audiobooks

Affiliate Marketing with Audible
This section explores the world of affiliate marketing with Audible, providing a chance for people to promote Audible’s products and earn commissions. We’ll talk about the Audible affiliate program, how to get exclusive affiliate links to increase traffic and sales, and how to sign up. We’ll look at a number of tactics for marketing audiobooks, Audible subscriptions, and other goods on websites, blogs, social media, and other channels. For individuals who can generate referrals, affiliate marketing with Audible can be a profitable alternative. It’s also a great method to monetize material that is relevant to books, audiobooks, or education. You may promote Audible’s goods as an affiliate by adding a specific link to your website, podcast, social networking profile, etc. People may sign up for a 30-day free trial of Audible by clicking the link. The following step is as easy as sharing the free trial link and urging as many people as you can to sign up. If you already have a following, it’s much more straightforward. For each successful signup, you’ll receive $15, which may add up quickly. Get your link by first becoming an associate with Audible.
Creating Audiobook-Related Content
This section looks at the possibility of making audiobook-related content and how to make money off of it. Regardless of your enthusiasm for writing reviews, talking about, or endorsing audiobooks, this section offers advice on creating a content network that includes a blog, YouTube channel, or podcast. We go over how to use your passion and skills to produce interesting and educational audiobook-related content that appeals to your target audience. We’ll also go into monetization techniques, including sponsorships, ad income, and affiliate marketing. You can share your love and make money from your work by becoming recognized as an invaluable resource for audiobook fans.
However, creating a professional audiobook can be a bit difficult. That’s why, in this blog on self-publishing, I hope to show you how to effectively and efficiently create audiobooks for your books. But before we begin, if you’d like to learn more about creating books, self-publishing, and book marketing, you can check out my blog post. And with that, let’s begin. The first step is going to be preparing your book for your audiobook version.
When it comes to audiobooks, you have to remember that your audience cannot see anything. So things like hyperlinks or imagery either need to be spelled out or described. Just think to yourself: would this make sense if I was just listening to it or not? This might actually force you to change a couple of sections in your book in preparation for turning it into an audiobook. The next step to creating your audiobook is deciding whether or not you want to pay for production or record your book yourself.
Depending on your word count and the quality of work that you are willing to pay for, the pricing could vary from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. While each option can produce varying levels of quality, it’s really up to you what you want to do. And here are a couple of things that you should think about when it comes to recording your own audiobook.
Have a noise-free, friendly When recording, you will either want to find somewhere in your house that is soundproof friendly or won’t have the daily thuds and bumps of any of the home guests running around. Or if you have the ability to go to a sound studio, that is always a preferred option, being familiar with your audio editing software or sending your audio files to an audio engineer. No matter which one you choose, you will still want to make sure that you are recording your audio in the right format and have somewhere to store the files once finished, as well as augment them so they’re crystal clear and sound good. Lastly, and probably the most important, is understanding that when recording any audiobook, it’s going to take a significant amount of time. On average, most people are able to speak somewhere between 8000 and 9000 words per hour.
But even for some of the most skilled voice actors, it could be hard to continuously speak for an hour straight. So if you’re recording for the first time, understand that you are going to need breaks and that you may be there for a while.
Narrator on the website for audiobooks
Now, if recording your own audio is not something you want to do or something that you’re really jazzed about, you can find some affordable narrators out there who could do a great job. In this next section, we’re going to look at some of those areas where you can find them, as well as some things to think about as you’re searching for your narrator to begin with.
Acx reviews
We’ll cover them a bit later since they are one of the most common distributors for uploading. However, a thing that makes ACX special is that you can post your book there, and narrators can audition for the opportunity. There are generally two ways of paying for them. Either the narrator gets paid per finished hour or a royalty share, which is something you’d set up before they commence their work.
Voices.com
This is a site devoted to helping find voice talent. Here, you can hover over Voiceover and then Audiobook and start exploring the different narrators. In that section, you can click See More, and then on the left side, you can use the filters to find someone more within your area.
Voices123.com
The first and biggest professional voice actor marketplace in the world, and it has always been our goal to shape the voice-over industry’s future.
Voice Crafters.com
is another site like the other two and does have a dedicated page for audiobooks as well. Now, there are other freelance gig sites like Fiverr, Upwork, and People per Hour. However, I found that most of those who promote that they do narration on those sites were also probably listed on a couple of sites I just talked about.
So it generally is a waste of time to check these as well, so now that we know where we can find some really cool narrators, let’s go ahead and talk about some of the things that you should think about as you’re searching for one.
- is finding the proper audiobook narrator. Depending on your style of writing or genre, you will want to make sure that you find someone who sounds the part. If you have several characters and want each one to have its own tone of voice, make sure they’ll find an artist who is capable of doing that. If that is the case, then verify they have the range and the book
- recorded, and the audio files were edited by an audio engineer. You can again find good engineers on sites like Upwork and Fiverr, or sometimes when choosing an audiobook narrator, they may include this step in their package, so just be aware of that.
- Lastly, before you contract an audiobook narrator, make sure that you get all the rights to the audiobook. You don’t want anyone holding you back from publishing your book when or where you want to. Also, just make sure there aren’t special caveats that they have rights to other things, okay? This should give you a great start to creating your audiobook.
Become a narrator for audiobooks
Â
I’ve been able to do a few more audiobooks since then. So these are definitely the top tips that I wanted to go over with you today.
All right? You want to roll your shoulders back and set up straight. Some narrators actually stand when they record. I prefer to sit just because I like to do these in long sessions. So if you prefer to sit, make sure you have really good posture. You want to make sure that you’re not slouching or really doing something that’s going to hurt your back, because that hurts. And two, because you want to make sure you have good energy. You want to make sure you’re embodying the character when you’re narrating. So if they’re relaxed, okay, yeah, maybe you let your shoulders drop a little bit. Maybe you lean back a little, but you still want to keep a good distance from your microphone, and you want to make sure you have good energy. So the
Believe it or not, your voice will carry the energy through. If you’re just kind of flat-face talking, it actually ends up sounding more monotone. So you definitely want to make sure you’re smiling. Obviously, if you’re doing something where you have a character who’s angry, maybe you don’t smile as much, but you know what I mean. In general, you want to be smiling. All right, again, matching the mood of the scene If you’re narrating a chapter in the book where the main character is injured or in peril, don’t sound happy. Bring the suspense into it.
Bring the energy. Obviously, you’re going to be editing the audio so you can pause, take a beat, and say something multiple times to make sure you’re getting the right energy. You’re getting the right sound to it several times. I have a narrator who says, Oh, so and so whispered. So you’re kind of doing that stage whisper where it’s that exaggerated sound to make it sound like a whisper.
So you want to make sure you’re bringing all that energy in. All right, the next huge tip that I have for everybody is water Drink lots and lots of water. When you’re narrating, you don’t want your mouth to get that dry sound. You don’t want it to sound too moist, either. So if you’re continually hydrating throughout your day before you record after each session, it won’t sound as wet or dry.
Another thing is to talk slowly. So if you catch yourself getting into a really good flow, the dialogue just really flows. And maybe it’s your own book, so you know what’s coming next. You want to make sure you actually stop what you’re doing then and there, correct your posture, and start over again. So this makes sure that you don’t talk really fast.
A lot of people listen to audiobooks at a higher speed, so you don’t want to be just flying through. And then all of a sudden they’re like, Well, I was understanding what they’re saying, and now I got way too fast, so I’m going to have to rewind. That takes the reader or the listener out of the experience, and then they probably won’t like it as much. Keep that in mind. Okay, so inevitably, a lawn mower will start outside.
An airplane is going to go overhead. Another loud noise is going to come along. Just take a deep breath. It’ll pass. As I said, you get to edit the audio.
It’s kind of frustrating when you feel like, I have that perfect, and now I have to reset it. Just take it as a chance to do another take and make sure it’s done even more perfectly the next time. It’s really frustrating, but don’t let that impact the rest of your day or the rest of your recording session. It’s just a couple of seconds of sound. It’ll be fine.
What are your best tips for when you are narrating as well? Whether you just narrate audiobooks or whether you are somebody who is a self-published author who narrates their books, I definitely want to hear from you. If you found this blog helpful, please let me know in the comments.
